LIPHOOK U3A OPEN DAY

30 New Members liked what they saw. Liphook U3A held their annual Open Day at the Millennium Hall on Monday, 10th March.

This year the main hall was devoted to displays by most of the thirty-odd activity groups within the Liphook branch, who were kept pretty busy talking to people who had come along to find out just what U3A is all about. Many existing members also attended as this was a good opportunity for them to renew their membership for another year and learn about the different activities available. These are very varied and include the likes of history, local history, walking, strolling, tennis, table tennis, flower arranging, archaeology, antiques, photography and many more. It’s surprising how many times you heard “I didn’t realise that was an activity available at Liphook U3A”.

Free refreshments were available in the Canada Room which meant that John Horner and his team were kept continually ”on the go” serving tea, coffee and homemade cakes and at times it was difficult to find a seat from which to relax and enjoy the welcome refreshments.

In the foyer, Membership Secretary Steve Priestley and his team were also working flat out collecting membership renewals and signing up new members, who had obviously been impressed with what they had seen during their visit. During the afternoon thirty new members joined and over one hundred of the existing 600 members paid their subscriptions to renew for another year.

All in all this was a very successful afternoon for Liphook U3A

U3A is an organisation that encourages retired people to continue to learn and remain active, so that they may continue to enjoy life to the full. To learn more about the Liphook branch just visit www.liphooku3a.org.uk or ring the Chairman, Bob Robinson on 01428 723171
