Mini roundabouts
- Rob (1st Apr 2014 - 09:11:06)

Twice lately I have been hooted at by cars putting on their right turn indicators as they enter the mini roundabouts.
They want to try and put them on as they Approach them!!
Also if is illegal to drive over a mini roundabout unless your vehicle is long. Can we get the Police t warn them as more and more are doing it, there will be a collision soon with one vehicle taking the roundabout correctly and the next going over the top of it and hitting the vehicle in front.
Oh I forgot this is Liphook!!

hi
I agree entiriely -you have my sympathies
it's a continuing problem - see previous tread of poss 6 weeks ago
....you have to appreciate that a lot of drivers around liphook think they are exempt from the law - after all they are important people!

I agree entirely. I find the worst spot is the roundabount at the Anchor garage. Cars coming from the Square turning into Midhurst Road cut across the roundabount at an angle of 45'
I realise to conform, one must head slightly to the left before turning right on the roundabout.

The idea of a roundabout is to go "round about" it not across.

You do need to give way to traffic from the right though, which many people seem to struggle with.

Yes we do if they give the signal at the right time, the very essence of my complaint.

- Darren (2nd Apr 2014 - 19:53:32)

Actually you need to give way to traffic ON THE ROUNDABOUT from your right, NOT traffic waiting to enter the roundabout from your right.
Even more people appear to not understand that!

Re: Mini roundabouts

If they're on the roundabout to your right then you should give way to them, regardless of whether they're indicating or not. I agree, it's very frustrating when people don't indicate - all the more reason to give way though as you don't know which exit they're going to take and they have right of way anyway.

Re: Mini roundabouts
- Andy (3rd Apr 2014 - 15:39:49)

From the highway code (available online) "give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights." Therefore it's not specific as to whether the traffic is already on the roundabout or just about to enter it. If two cars approach the roundabout at the same time, the one on the left should give way to the one on the right.

Rules for Liphook rounadabouts - short version (long one can be found in previous thread).

1. when approaching or entering roundabout do so without bothering to check other traffic

2. for a change when approaching roundabout, stop and wait until there is absolutely no other traffic from any direction that you can see

3 On odd days don't use the roundabouts

4 Only indicate when hooted at by other drivers

5 If caught trying to enter roundabout when there is already traffic there, make out its their fault and not yours.

Peter
