Old Family home in Liphook - Greenacres [Greenbanks]
- Sheila Bazett (22nd Feb 2010 - 20:43:11)

My grandparents lived here in the 1920-1930's with their 5 young children, my grandfather having retired as Lt. Col Seymour Bazett, from Burma. I am trying to find out any information/ pictures of their life and home ," Greenacres".

Regarding your enquiry re family home in liphook, the 1931 directory shows a Lt col seymour bazett as residing at Greenbank[s], London Road, Liphook. the house is still in existence and has been converted into a care home. hope this is of help.

O dear I think you are 2yrs to late to speak to anyone who knew your grandparents when they lived in Liphook.

My mum worked for them for a few years before she got married which was 1931 as the kitchen maid and her friend Muriel was the nanny. Both are dead now mum dying 2yrs ago at the age of 97yrs. It is such a pity because I know she would have loved to have talked to you as she had a wonderful memory and full life right up to the end.

The only things I remember her saying about her life then, related to her life and I don’t remember her saying much about the family apart from them having children and a car in the garage which she slept in one night as she was late back and was locked out. Mum’s sister is still living in Liphook but as she is 10yrs younger than mum she only remembers the name and going to the party which they held every Christmas.

The last person to live at Geenbanks as a family home was Simon Parris who was the developer who changed it into a nursing home. I took mum to see it when they lived their and she said it was quite different inside but outside was the same. So it is quite possible he will have some pictures of the original house. He can be contacted through Greenbanks Home Care, Oak Cottage, The Square, Liphook GU30 7AB.
