The (ex) Railway Pub
- Phillip (27th Feb 2010 20:07:28)
Hi, anyone any idea what's going to happen - what's its future, timescales - or is staying boarded whilst its future is yet-to-be decided? Thanks

Brian you had a lucky escape, there are a few good B&B's in Liphook would be much better.
I do believe the pub will become flats
[editor - see local accommodation]

Re: 'accomodation'. Tylston lodge no longer a B&B as far as I'm aware and hasn't been for some time.
I also heard the Railway had been bought by a small company who own a couple of pubs reasonably locally.
[editor - will remove them from the accommodation page]

Hi
recently I discovered this local B & B not too far from the Station either.
Oak Tree House - 2 Locke Road, GU30 7DQ - 01428 725061 & 07831 306710
[editor - FYI - I have added Theydon on Headley Road to the accommodation page]

I can highly recommend the Black Fox pub, i stay there when i visit Liphook, the food is very good, and the rooms are always clean and tidy.

Theydon on Headley road is fabulous! My parents stay there when visiting us for big family gatherings ( an oasis of calm away from our mad house!). The owners are so welcoming and my parents never leave without a little gift , home made cider jelly ,fuscia cuttings or simlilar.

In answer to previous speculation about the above it appears that whomever purchased it will seek planing permission to convert it into 14 "starter" flats.
First, of course, Punch Taverns will have to persuade the planning authorities that they exhausted conventional means to dispose of it as a going concern - without success - to be able to have the premises de-licensed.
An agent of either the vendor or the purchasor (or both) is currently attempting to make a case for this by establishing that the demand for hotel/letting rooms in Liphook is currently sufficiently well enough served by what existing hotels, pubs and b&b's provide now without the Railway.

I wonder what "starter" flats mean? Are they for the public to buy or rent?Does this mean that there will be people living in Station Road?I think it will be a real boost for the businesses along there. What does everyone else think about this?

Brian,
Try Cycle Works, in West Street, Haslemere, or Liphook Cycles in the square, Liphook, if they are not able to help, they might know of someone who can.
Enjoy your stay.
